Heathland Mitigation Project Manager - BCP Council

Role Purpose

Provide Project Management expertise in the delivery of Heathland Mitigation projects. BCPs urban heathlands are internationally important. Mitigation policies are in place that seek to deliver improvements that protect the heaths from urban pressures and improve other green spaces.

This role requires project management skills to deliver a range of capital improvements, from £10k to £2m, whilst working in partnership with stakeholders, councillors, statutory and other partners.

A broad role that takes in mitigation work across BCP, the project manager will work in the Green Space Development and Countryside teams.

Main Responsibilities

Heathland Mitigation is a requirement of Planning Policy and the delivery of Suitable Alternative Natural Green spaces (SANGs) and Heathland Infrastructure Projects (HIPs) enables BCP housing development. The practical delivery of projects supports our Green Infrastructure, prevents harm to urban heaths and improves green spaces for wildlife and local communities.

Typical projects see the delivery of access improvements (paths, boardwalks, entrance ways etc), signage and interpretation, nature recovery and focussed interventions such as dog training facilities. These projects encourage users away from heaths to other, less-sensitive, green spaces.

The Dorset Heaths Partnership are a key partner in ensuring our work is joined-up and consistent with the wider Dorset area.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with project management experience and skills to be able to effectively run capital projects. Managing capital budgets through Microsoft Dynamics, liaising closely with procurement, legal and internal works teams to achieve delivery.

Be able to work up projects from concept, with partners and stakeholders, seeking planning permission alongside support for project delivery from natural England and the heathland mitigation steering group,. Complete projects to time and budget, with associated promotion and communication.

The project manger should be passionate about joining a diverse multi-disciplinary team that works across green spaces. Work in a collaborative and innovative environment where green spaces are making a difference for people and nature.
