Lambeth Bee Roads Project Officer - Lambeth Council
SO1: Starting Salary £32,868 pa rising in annual increments to £34,062 pa
Fixed Term Contract or Secondment Opportunity until 31 March 2024
Lambeth Council have recently secured funding to deliver our ambitious Lambeth Bee Roads Project. Lambeth Bee Roads will be a network of green infrastructure projects located alongside roads throughout the borough of Lambeth, designed in collaboration with local communities to provide extensive wildflower habitats for bees and other pollinators and enhanced rainwater management.
We are seeking a special person to deliver this and help make a significant impact on Lambeth’s environment. You will be planning and installing a series of new linear wildflower meadows on underused land alongside roads in collaboration with local communities.
The Lambeth Bee Roads Project Officer will oversee and deliver all horticultural, ecological and community and volunteering aspects of the new Lambeth Bee Roads project.
We are looking for someone with relevant ecological and/or horticultural skills, along with strong communication and organisational skills, and experience of volunteer management. The role involves a substantial amount of outdoor work, including practical tasks such as turf stripping and soil replacement, meeting communities, choosing and ordering seeds and wildflowers for planting, arranging deliveries and carefully monitoring the results. The post holder will mentor a horticultural apprentice, who will support practical work.
The projects are across different areas of the council so you will be working with colleagues in Parks, Highways, Housings and Climate Change. Close community working and relationship building is important to managing these the projects and some of the larger projects will have Steering Groups which this post holder will facilitate.
Some weekend and evening working will be required, for which Time Off in Lieu will be given. This post is funded until end March 2024 with support from the Mayor of London.
Closing date: Sunday 7 August 2022 at midnight
